The benefits of eating salmon are well known. Salmon are full of omega-3 fatty acids which helps improve mood, can aid in stress reduction, provide the body with essential fats that it needs and it has also been linked to good cardiac health. While salmon is naturally a strong tasting fish, there are several recipes which can not only help improve the taste, but can also add to the already plentiful number of health benefits. This savory salmon recipe is easy to make and will make the whole home smell wonderful.
- 6 Salmon filets
- Organic sesame teriyaki sauce (or make your own: recipe below)
- 3 organic cloves of garlic minced
- 1 piece of organic ginger finely chopped (about the size of the tip of your thumb)
If using purchased organic teriyaki sauce, the process is easy and quick. Pour 250ml of organic teriyaki sauce into a bowl, and then add in the minced garlic and finely chopped ginger. Whisk it together until the garlic and ginger is well mixed with the teriyaki sauce.
Line a baking sheet with foil and place the six salmon filets evenly apart. Now spoon the sauce mixture from the bowl on to each filet (1-2 spoons per filet). Take a cooking brush and spread the sauce evenly, letting the extra spill on to the pan. Set your oven to 160 degrees Celsius and cook without turning for 15-20 minutes of the fish is raw; or a half an hour to 40 minutes if frozen.
If you prefer to make your own organic teriyaki sauce at home, you’ll need:
- Another piece of organic ginger (the same size as the amount used for the salmon recipe)
- An additional 3 organic garlic cloves
- 4 teaspoons of roasted sesame oil
- 4 teaspoons rice vinegar
- 250ml soy sauce that has not been pasteurised
Mince or finely chop the garlic and ginger and then mix all ingredients together in a bowl or container with a tight fitting lid. Make sure to make the teriyaki sauce the night before you are planning on cooking your salmon filets to let all of the flavors mix together well.
Tip: Regardless of whether you use organic teriyaki sauce or you make your own, you can also choose to marinate the salmon in the mixture overnight before cooking it for increased flavor.
