Darkly Delicious Apples
Did you know that the pairing of dark chocolate and apples create an antioxidant-rich dynamic duo that may help protect your heart? Here’s our heart-healthy and tooth-friendly twist on traditional candied and caramel apples.
1 cup dark-chocolate baking discs or chips
Directions: Remove the apple stems and insert the sticks into the top of the apples. Melt the dark chocolate baking discs or chips in a double boiler (or just insert metal bowl into a pot of boiling water). When the chocolate has melted, slowly rotate each apple until all sides are covered in chocolate. Place on a tray lined with parchment or wax paper and set in the fridge to cool.

Transform seasonal fruit into an arrangement of spooky treats for a sweet snack minus the scary sugar. Kids can get creative in the kitchen with this super-easy, no baking-required recipe!

Directions: Give your kids unpeeled mandarins and let your little monsters get creative by drawing on pumpkin faces. Meanwhile, peel bananas and cut them in half crosswise. Have your kids press two mini chocolate chips into the side of the banana for eyes and a regular-size chocolate chip for a ghost mouth.
Ghost Fruit Kebabs
Since the kids usually get their fill of sweet treats on Halloween, create some fun healthy Halloween snacks this year for your Hallloween celebrations. This recipe uses melon and strawberries for fruit, but these kebabs would work great with any fruit. TMP Organics has organic bananas, apples and pears in at the moment. Serve at a Halloween party or send in as a fun snack for your kids to share at school.
You Will Need:
Melon (cut into cubes)
Food colouring marker
1. For the marshmallows, use a black food colouring marker to draw a ghostly face onto each marshmallow. (This is a great task for older kids to help with!) Let the marshmallows dry for a few minutes before using.
2. Wash and cut the fruit into bite-sized pieces. Add a strawberry, piece of melon and then a ghost marshmallow to the skewer. Repeat the pattern until you are at the top.
Cut peeled bananas in half crosswise and insert a skewer into each half. Freeze until firm, about 1 hour. Microwave chopped semisweet chocolate (about 30g per skewer) in 20-second intervals, stirring, until melted. Dip the bananas in the chocolate and press 2 candy eyeballs (available at craft and party-supply stores) into each and let set, about 10 minutes. Microwave marshmallows (about 2 per skewer) until puffed, 10 to 15 seconds. Stir until smooth; let cool slightly. Using a spoon, scoop up some of the marshmallow (it will stretch into a thread) and wrap it around the bananas. Transfer to a parchment-lined plate and freeze until serving.
